New path between footbridge and Salmon PoolThis path is an unformed track used by Thursonians for many years and a favourite section for dog walkers. It is an attractive area of the river valley in the summer but regretfully is extremely muddy underfoot for six months of the year. The track is some 400 metres in length and leads from the Cemetery gate along the Mill Lade to the bottom weir of the Salmon Pool. Leaving the Pool the track follows the general line of the East riverbank until it meets the East end of the Cemetery footbridge. Recently
the track has been identified as a suitable project for action by the BTCV,
British Trust for Conservation Volunteers, who have expressed interest in
organising the provision of a properly constructed path.
Matters have progressed apace and BTVC and a group of volunteers
from the Dounreay work force have elected to undertake the commencement of
the new path to a specification prepared by the BTVC project organisers.
The new path will be cut out, ground prepared, hardcored and
surfaced with a machine compacted gravel. It
is intended that a start on the path works will commence in mid October
2001 and this is very much welcomed.
