Repair Gabion basketsAt times of flood conditions storm water is carried under the high level railway line through a large culvert and then cascades down the steep slope via a built stone waterfall system to eventually pass under the West bank path to the river. Minor works to reduce the problems caused by the storm water have been carried out within the initial project but further steps are required. It
is proposed to effect repairs to a number of the stone filled gabion
baskets forming the lowest section of the ‘waterfall’ and to take
measures to divert the flow of water back to its original route where
slippage of stone dam walls have occurred.
In addition repairs and modifications to the vandalised storm
drains at path level will be carried out. Discussions
have taken place with Highland Regional Council Protective Services
Department to have the water flow emanating from the culvert checked by
Environmental Officers to ensure that only storm water reaches the river
and that regular inspections are considered by the appropriate body.
