Burns Supper 2004 - An event to remember! The first Burns Supper held with a lady Rotarian as a member of the Rotary Club of Thurso and with her replying to the Toast to the Lassies was an event to remember. Not just because ladies attended for the first time, though this was very significant, but also due to quality of the speakers and enjoyment of the evening.
The 'Top Table' take their places and then the haggis is piped in. James Campbell almost assaults the haggis, Angus Mackay gives an unusual, informative and humorous Immortal Memory and Roy Watson entertains the company with some rousing fiddle music. James Simpson Toast the Lassie with his customary wit and eloquence and Carroll Buxton replies with equal measure on behalf of the Lassies.
Peter Kelly gives another flawless performance of 'Tam O' Shanter', Bob Earshaw ensures all are thanked for their contributions to the evening and no Supper would be complete without Peter Murchison's powerful singing.
Of course Peter is not the only 'powerful singer' and others try to emulate with, if nothing else, unrestrained enthusiasm while an enthralled audience looks on. |
