Once again the Thurso Rotary Burns supper was one of the highlights of the year for the club and one of the premier suppers in Caithness. A superb group of speakers, ably introduced by President Iain Thomson, entertained a company of over 90 in the Pentland Hotel, Thurso.
A well tanned Alan Sparing gives an energetic address to the haggis and President Iain puts some hecklers in their place!
Donald Omand has been speaking at Burns suppers for 40 years and still never ceases to enthral an audience while 15 year old Michael Barry very ably set out on his Burns Supper speaking career. Lesley Crawford quickly put the young speaker and the men in the audience in their place with a few home truths.
Jocky Campbell was his usual very proficient self on the accordion, Peter Murchison attacked Burns songs with customary gusto! Piper Alan Plowman got the night off to a great start when he piped in the haggis and later he entertained the company with a pipe selection.
Murray Campbell was fulsome in his praise of the performers. Pity he hadn't had those glasses when he was a football referee!
Great night lads!
