ConclusionsThe
Rotary Club of Thurso sincerely hopes that this Feasibility Study will prove of
interest to many parties. It is
considered that two things will have been achieved when the measures proposed
are in place. The obvious benefit
will be the enhancement of an important part of Thurso amenity.
The second and equally significant result will be the fruition of an
integrated concentration of effort by many individuals and organisations
prepared to unite and succeed in a common aim. There
is no doubt the Mall/Riverside area is rightly perceived by the Public as an
integral and important part of the fabric of Thurso. Over the years the area has suffered on several fronts, lack
of significant investment, serious vandalism problems and a poor maintenance
record. There appears to be little
point in creating improvement if these matters remain unaddressed.
The most difficult of the problems affecting the area is vandalism and it
is felt that a conscious effort by all should be made to try to counter this
modern day malady. It is
appreciated that there is no immediate remedy available and there appears to be
an increasing alienation between young people and authority with a capital A.
This rift has to be bridged and it is suggested that more significant
contact be made with the youngsters, probably via the schools, to interest and
involve them in the aims and conditions for the Thurso River area, to take on
board their thoughts and ideas and to ensure they are fully part of the effort. Finally
it is to be hoped that everyone who is interested in Thurso and its well being
will support the principals included in the Feasibility Study to create a better
place for present and future generations. The
Rotary Club of Thurso would wish to record its appreciation to the many who have
provided help and encouragement throughout the preparation of the Feasibility
Study.
